LAGOS DELIVERS ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE, BRIDGE IN OJO LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Published

on

Conceived as a strategic link road within the Ojo Local Government, home to Alaba International Market, the Ariyo- Tedi link road and bridge was over the weekend commissioned by the Lagos State Government.

The 1.345km road and 55 metre bridge was executed by Messers Lopek Engineering Construction Limited after the original contractor Messrs Moreno-Marinas-Lagoon failed to execute the project.

Speaking at the event, the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, noted that the continued construction of some roads is in accordance with the agenda of his administration, the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda. Which include Traffic Management and Transportation. Its objective is to save important man-hours that would have been otherwise lost to traffic gridlock, boost inter-connectivity across the state and to generally make life better for commuters.

While empathizing with the people in the locality, the governor stated that “one of the most critical challenges experienced daily by residents and road users along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway is the perennial gridlock occasioned by the ongoing reconstruction works along the corridor, with its attendant inconveniences and loss of valuable time”.

According to him, one of the ways we have to address this challenge is to redirect traffic to inner roads by providing diversions and alternative routes during the period of construction. It is for this reason that we decided to complete the construction works on the Ira-Muwo Link Bridge, which we are commissioning today”.

Sanwo-Olu however appealed to all stakeholders including traders, commuters, transport union, transport operators and shop owners to take ownership of government facilities stating by avoiding all actions that will compromise their quality and life-span. “These projects belong to all of you and you must protect them jealously and treat them with utmost care” He said.

The Governor urged the people to maintain peace and order in the course of project execution in their domain, noting that project completion and the commissioning is possible because of the existence of peace. Saying “Without peace there cannot be development. Development will only get to us if there is peace “.

Earlier in her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye stated that in line with the Sanwo-Olu’s Agenda which aims to address the challenge of traffic gridlock, the Government strategically thought it through to complete the Ariyo (Mile 10)- Ira-Muwo-Tedi-Abule Oshun road alignment with Reinforced Concrete Bridges.

She explained that the completion of Ariyo (Mile 10) Ira Muwo- Tedi- Abule Oshun road alignment with link bridges seeks to provide a functional bypass to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway between Ojo Alaba, Volks and trade fair bus stop.

The commissioned project Ira-Muwo Bridge with a length of 450 metres and 11 metres in width is redefining in terms of solution it brings to the congestion and gridlock within the residential and commercial axis.

While highlighting the challenges encountered in the course of construction, the Special Adviser stated that the peculiarity of the swampy terrain to the lagoon made provision of alternative routes virtually difficult, “thus it was quite a challenge to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the critical stages”.

To enhance transparency in traffic management and enforcement, the Lagos State Government has deployed more body cameras to the Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel.

The event which took place at the weekend during the visit of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa to the LASTMA headquarters at Oshodi, Lagos State had the LASTMA Personnel issued more body cameras with the pledge to keep them working for increased credibility and confidence in the delivering of effective traffic management and enforcement.

Explaining the reason for the redeployment of the gadgets, the Special Adviser stated that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has brought lots of technological innovations to address the transport challenges of the State of which the body camera was one, for accurate traffic management among many other benefits.

Expressing his optimism of the bodycam to be able to deliver authentic traffic law violation reports or complaints as the case may be, Giwa further assured that the bodycam will provide accurate validation of any tale rendered by both the Law Enforcement Officers and Motorists, adding that the pictorial evidences will also help in investigating complaints lodged by aggrieved motorists.

On the operation of the camera, the LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba assured that the LASTMA Officers have been duly trained on the usage and so are capable of handling the gadget adding that the camera would have a significant effect on deviant behaviour on the road.
He further explained that the bodycam initiative is a win-win procedure for both the Law Enforcement Officers and Motorists as the regular arguments on traffic laws violation will be put to rest through detailed recordings.

A LASTMA Officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity at the gathering informed that what thrills Officers the most about the gadget is the fact that it provides another layer of security by dissuading would-be attackers from carrying out their heinous crimes knowing they would be captured by the bodycams.
It will be recalled that the Germany made body cameras which was launched in year 2021 by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu have been found to work effectively for 12 hours without a blink, as the battery life span is strong and durable for the use of the Law Enforcement Officers.

Ilebaye and Chichi

The Saturday Night Party started on a rough note for Chichi and Ilebaye. Ilebaye was caught crying on Chomzy’s shoulder after getting into an altercation with Chichi in the Garden. Chichi did not appreciate Ilebaye’s approach when she wanted Groovy to dance with Phyna instead of Chichi.

The two were caught dancing together, and according to Chichi, Ilebaye intercepted their dance, and aggressively pushed her away and she did not appreciate that.

They left the Party Room to talk about the issue in the Garden with Groovy. After apologising, Chichi did not accept the apology, instead calling Ilebaye a low-life. She did not take kindly to that and walked away crying. Chomzy came in to save the day and offered her comfort as she continued shedding tears.

She opened up to Chomzy about how she is not ready to leave the House, referring to her Nomination.

Her goal is to at least get to the top five and does not understand why Chichi did not accept her apology, and why she called her a low-life.

Ilebaye getting comfort from Chomzy was peculiar, considering that she was gisting about her earlier to both Phyna and Amaka respectively. She was telling both of them that she does not understand why Chomzy does not like her, and how she gives her a bad eye whenever they meet up.

Ilebaye was spotted dancing with Dotun who eventually also came to the Garden, offering solace to Ilebaye. “Between me and her, who is the low-life,” Ilebaye asked Dotun. “I am not a stripper,” she continued to add to Dotun. Is she insinuating that being a stripper makes Chichi a low-life?

Chomzy left Ilebaye in Dotun’s hands and went to offer comfort to Chichi who kept going on about the altercation. She retold the story to Chomzy and called Ilebaye fake. “If you want to bring the fire, I will bring a storm,” she said.

Will the ladies have an opportunity to iron out their issues and forgive each other?

Phyna and Amaka, the end of a friendship? – BBNaija

Phyna and Amaka

Amaka and Phyna’s sismance has been the most favourite to watch in the House. The two had a slight fallout at the beginning of the season, but they did not allow the screaming match to dictate the trajectory of their relationship. They soon worked it out and have been inseparable ever since.

Their blossoming friendship has been one of a kind, and they lean on each other more often than not. When Amaka was contemplating shooting her shot with Giddyfia, Phyna advised her to choose and not lead Pharsamvi on. This led to a heart-to-heart between Amaka and Pharmsavi, where she eventually decided that they are better as friends.

On Day 20, Amaka admitted her feelings for Groovy to Phyna during one of their chats. Later that day, Groovy and Phyna spent a lot of time together, and this raised red flags for Amaka. She addressed it with Groovy later in the Kitchen. He laid down his boundaries, stating that he can initiate a relationship with whomever he pleases.

When Phyna and Groovy later spoke about that particular conversation, Phyna told Groovy that she is not interested in a relationship, and would never throw herself at a man.

Groovy and Phyna spent the night in the same bed again, and this upset Amaka. Phyna told Groovy that Amaka is trying to pretend that their closeness is not getting to her.

Amaka eventually denied that she has any feelings for Groovy to Kess. She also added that she only cares that her friendship with Phyna is maintained.

On Day 21, she woke up and danced by herself, and was later joined by Phyna. Shortly after their dance, Phyna went to the Lounge mirror and started affirming herself. “You are the embodiment of a queen,” she said. She told Chizzy that she can’t allow “other things” to move her because she has her eyes on the prize. Could she be talking about Phyna and Groovy?

Amaka got into an argument with Phyna in the morning in the Kitchen over who should be cleaning. This argument upset Phyna, and Groovy came in for a tight squeeze, asking what he should do for her when she is upset.

Phyna and Amaka have not engaged in an argument in a very long time, and one surfacing now leaves one with lots of questions. Could Groovy be coming in between a friendship? Is Phyna breaking a girl code by telling Groovy about her conversations with Amaka?
