Philippe Coutinho has completed his Aston Villa medical and will be ready to play in Saturday’s Premier League match against Manchester United.

Coutinho is currently in France completing paperwork for his work permit and will join up with his new team-mates on Wednesday to take part in his first training session.

After recovering from Covid, Coutinho will need a few games to regain full match fitness but it is thought the former Liverpool midfielder will make himself available for the visit of United on Saturday, which is live on Sky Sports.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard said:

“Philippe is currently in the process of finalising his immigration papers and we are looking forward to getting him on the training pitch with the group on Wednesday at Bodymoor.

“He is an outstanding footballer who boasts a highly impressive CV laced with plenty of elite honours.

“I am really pleased that we have been able to bring him on board and I am looking forward to working with him.

“He is a player I enjoyed playing with previously and I know the rest of the squad here at Aston Villa will benefit from his quality and experience. His presence will be invaluable given injuries and the AFCON tournament have reduced our attacking options.”

Nigerian legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, has hailed the Teranga Lions of Senegal for their ‘heart’.

According to Okocha, Aliou Cissé’s side are fearless, and believe they can beat any team at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Senegal booked their place in the World Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday night after beating Ecuador 2-1.

The AFCON champions will face England in the knockout stage this weekend.

Speaking on SuperSport, Okocha said,

“One good thing that this Senegalese team has got right from years back is heart. They are fearless and they believe they can beat anybody.

“Also, the character of their manager has been passed on to this team. I managed to play with him, he was not the most brilliant player, but he had heart.

“You can see from this Senegalese team that what they’ve going for them now is team spirit because they’re missing crucial individual players like [Sadio] Mane, who finished second in the Ballon d’Or.”

Chelsea are close to agreeing a £13million deal to sign midfielder, Andrey Santos from Vasco de Gama.

According to Le10 Sport, Chelsea have moved quickly to wrap up a deal to sign Santos in the January transfer window, provided the 18-year-old does not have a late change of heart.

The report added that Paris Saint-Germain have been monitoring Santos’ displays for several months, while Barcelona and Newcastle United have also kept tabs on the 18-year-old.

It’s reported that Chelsea’s proposal ‘was considered more consistent with Santos’ expectations’ than the project put forward by PSG.

Santos made his first-team breakthrough with Vasco de Gama earlier this year.
