The Federal government explained her concerns by citing the country’s rising unemployment rate and deteriorating values, as well as the need for intervention which birthed the idea of Project TMAX – aimed to alleviate poverty and create job opportunities for the masses, thereby lifting 100 million people out of poverty by 2030. In this light, the government partnered with existing private and public technical and vocational training centres across Nigeria for the progress of this initiative.

Over 400,000 applicants registered for the program at its inception. Currently, about 13,000 beneficiaries are enrolled in six pilot states – Lagos, Ogun, Enugu, Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Gombe. She also praised the government’s commitment to training youths to be self-sufficient, and stated how Project TMAX has created opportunities for youths to learn trades that will aid them be contributing members of the society rather than relying solely on certificates.

Finally, Edo, which is the last of the pilot states, will begin its registration on 12th January and end on the 21st of January 2023. Training is expected to commence in earnest on the 30th of January and will last for three (3) months.
