Aba Stakeholder Calls On Buhari To Sack Paul Ikonne From NALDA For Working Against APC

Ahead of the Aba North/South Federal Constituency by-election, a stakeholder of Ariara International market; Africa’s largest leather shoe-making and open stall markets, Chief Innocent Madumere has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve  the Executive Secretary of National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) Paul Ikonne of his job and replace with a more faithful Ngwa man. This is even as he called Ikonne a greedy saboteur and a dishonest man who deserves no place in Buhari’s government.

The business mogul who made  the call on Saturday  evening during a call -in  radio program in Aba revealed with shock how an appointee of All Progressives Congress (APC) government would work against the same government that appointed him . Recall that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  has fixed March 27th for the by-election of Aba North/South Federal Constituency following the demise of the former occupant of the seat, Hon. Ossy Prestige,  a member of All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA).

He said Ikonne has been meeting with the stakeholders pleading with them to support the People’s Democratic Party (PDP ) candidate,  instead of his own party , APC in the forthcoming Saturday election. According to Madumere, “We were yet to find out the reasons he worked against  Uche Ogah during his governorship outing in the last election only for him to start plotting against Mascot Uzor Kalu in  the upcoming Saturday election.  In the two elections Buhari contested, he also worked against Buhari. He recorded no votes for the APC in his ward.

The president cannot keep such a chameleon in his government.  There are so many reliable Ngwa men that  can replace him  and do a good job.  He collected money  from the PDP  and he is begging us to support PDP candidate which we will never do. Since Ikonne does not take part in party activities, he has no justification to remain in that position. Mr President should replace him the same way the former minister of trade and investment, Okechukwu Enelamah was relieved of his job for anti party activities. You cannot be in a party and work against the same party, ” Chief Madumere stated. Speaking further amidst interruptions, he said; “Ikonne claims he  is supporting the PDP candidate because he is an Ngwa man, we want the president to sack him from NALDA  and replace him with an Abuja man so he can come and work in Ngwa.

Ikonne is a very tribalistic and unreliable man that can never be trusted in anything. There are more reliable,  informed and loyal APC Chieftains from Ngwa who can do the needed job in NALDA. Madumere who also said  that President  Buhari has done so much for Ariara Market including lighting up the market manufacturing activities with 9.5MW plant , noted that Ariara market stakeholders will officially write the President and APC National Party Chairman on Monday for their request on Ikonne.

The Lagos State Government has activated an Oxygen Plant within the premises of the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), Yaba, to provide swift support to COVID-19 patients who require oxygen therapy.

Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who activated the plant amidst the increased demand for oxygen occasioned by the second wave of COVID-19 infection, noted that the deployment and activation of the oxygen plant is in furtherance of the commitment of the State government to deploy an effective response to the pandemic.

While noting that the oxygen plant was built, in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Abayomi explained that the oxygen from the newly installed plant will be administered to patients through cylinders made available at hospital wards.

The Commissioner added that the operation of the plant will significantly make oxygen available for COVID-19 patients, supply about 300 cylinders per day and six cylinders per hour for use of patients admitted at the isolation facility.

“We recognise the importance of generating oxygen because of the large number of patients who are currently on admission in our isolation centres and are, largely, depending on oxygen. This has resulted in an escalating and alarming demand for oxygen”, Abayomi stated.

“The oxygen plant facility could not have come at a better time than now, when the State is recording an increase in the number of people presenting with difficulty in breathing and requiring urgent oxygen therapy”, he added.

Disclosing that about 300 cylinders of gas are being used a day in the State isolation facility, the Commissioner informed that a patient with a critical case may use about six cylinders of oxygen within 24 hours.

He explained that oxygen plants are industrial devices designed for regular supply into healthcare facilities, adding that high purity oxygen is needed in hospitals and essential for patients undergoing COVID treatments.

“This is particularly useful for patients with comorbidities who require prompt oxygen for survival. Oxygen from the plant will be very helpful for effective treatment due to proximity of the plant which serves as source”, Abayomi said.

While restating the commitment of the State government in the fight against COVID-19, the Commissioner assured that the present administration will not relent in its all-inclusive style of response against the pandemic, through greater collaboration with the private sector.

“This collaboration between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a good example of collaboration between government and the private sector”, he said.

My Agenda For Lagos East Senatorial District – Tokunbo Abiru

Ahead of the scheduled Lagos East Senatorial District bye-election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Tokunbo Abiru as given insight into some of the activities that would form his agenda of the district if elected.

In the document made available to BlackBox Nigeria, the former Managing Director of Polaris Bank opined that he would be setting up a foundation using his networks from the corporate sector to cater for the vulnerable in the society.

Read his agenda below;

Knowing the prevalence of poverty and unemployment in the country, immediately I secure the people’s mandate to represent the Lagos East Senatorial District, I will set up a Foundation to address these age-long issues.

This Foundation will be funded from my personal resources and goodwill as well as network that I have built in the private sector over the last three decades.

The beneficiaries will be the vulnerable members of the society such as the youth, women, people with special needs and the aged. This will be in addition to facilitation of sustainable opportunities for our young population to address unemployment and underemployment.

As you are aware, there are a lot of programmes the federal government has set up to empower our youths across the federation. I will work with the agencies implementing these programmes so that our youths in Lagos East get their fair share.

Considering my background in the corporate sector, I understand Lagos East should be the epicentre of economic activities in Lagos, therefore, we must improve our ease of doing business. In this regard, I will facilitate bills and motions that will contribute to the ease of doing business in Nigeria and particularly Lagos, thereby opening-up opportunities for our youthful population.

I promise to represent my good people of the Lagos East and indeed our great party with commitment, integrity and passion by leveraging all the experience, competences, knowledge and relationships I have acquired in the last three decades as an economist, chartered accountant, commissioner for finance, senior banker and CEO. Welfare of my constituents will be my priority.

When elected, I will also join hands with my distinguished colleagues in the Senate, as well as all members of the House of Representatives from the state to demand a special status for Lagos State. This is indeed long overdue.

Essentially, I will be preoccupied mainly with making policies that cater to the needs of my district and its people.

I will also focus on legislations that support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 3, 4 and 8, which are Eradication of Poverty, Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education and Decent Work and Economic Growth. These are the areas I will work on to the benefit of the good people of Lagos East using the combination of my Private and Public Sector experiences and network.

Mr. Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA.(“Tokunbo Abiru”)

APC Senatorial Candidate

Lagos East Senatorial District
